Waiting List Length
We do not have a waiting list system – Homehunt is a choice-based letting system. Anyone can register with Homehunt, and can then apply for priority if they have a priority need to be rehoused.
We have around 4,500 live registrations on Homehunt. Each year we only have around 70-80 available properties, and of those, 50% are offered to applicants who have been assessed as homeless by East Lothian Council under homeless legislation. Around 200 households on Homehunt have homeless priority, which means that we only have 35 available properties per year for the remaining 3,800 households.
In other words, we typically house less than 1% of our non-homeless applicants each year, and if we closed Homehunt to new non-homeless applicants today, it would still take over 100 years to house everyone. Of the 81 households we housed in 2017-18, the average time they had been registered with Homehunt was around two years, and most of them had a priority pass. We have applicants on Homehunt who have been registered for more than 10 years, and still have very little chance of being rehoused with us.
