Rubbish Disposal
East Lothian Council provides a rubbish and recycling collection service. See below for details on frequency. To check when your bins are collected, please check the Collection Dates Tool. It is your responsibility to make sure your bins are put out for collection on the correct day.
Type | Rubbish/Recycling | Frequency |
Grey Caddy | Food waste | Weekly |
Brown wheelie bin | Garden refuse | Fortnightly |
Blue/green boxes | Paper, Cardboard, Glass, Cans & Plastics | Fortnightly |
Green wheelie bin | Non-recyclables | Fortnightly |
Bulky items will not be collected with household waste but the Council will collect them separately if you call to make arrangements. You can find the telephone number on our Useful Links page. Please be aware that furtniture in good condition can be donated, and you can find out more about donating unwanted goods on the Recycle for Scotland website.
No furniture, cookers etc should be left in the communal areas or gardens. If you do not contact the Council for a special uplift, we will uplift the item and send a bill to the person who dumped the rubbish. If we cannot find out who has dumped the rubbish the cost of us picking it up will be added to the service charge for the area and everyone will have to pay.
