ELHA Girl Sprite With Green Bin

Rubbish

The weather is warming up (mostly), and many people will be carrying out some spring cleaning.  If you are throwing anything away, please remember to recycle wherever possible and do not fill up the bins with these items. East Lothian Council will not collect from overflowing bins or bin stores clogged with rubbish and filled with recyclable waste.

If an individual bin is overflowing  with rubbish, it is the tenant’s responsibility to sort things out.  If a communal bin store is in a mess, we will work with tenants to sort things out, but if that does not work, we may organise and pay for the bin store to be cleared.  We would pass on the costs of this work to all the tenants who use that communal area/bin store unless you can tell us who is responsible for the mess.

Dogs

With the warmer weather, more children will be playing in grassy areas.  Please remember to clear up after your dog.  As a reminder – ELC does not cut grassy areas which have dog mess, as running a mower over dog mess can be a safety hazard.

If you wish to report a noisy dog, this should be done by contacting the East Lothian Council Dog Warden.  For more information on dog nuisance, including the ELC Annoying Creatures procedure, please visit the ELC Dog Nuisance page:

Neighbours

Please remember you are living as part of a community.  Different people have different ideas about what is acceptable levels of noise and activity.  Common sense and good communication are key – don’t have a loud conversation with your guests in your garden at midnight when your neighbour has to get up for work at 6am, and children playing noisy games outside at 5pm is completely normal and not grounds for a complaint.  And most importantly, if a neighbour is doing something which you find annoying, let them know – they may have no idea that what they’re doing is causing a nuisance.
