Help Us Complete Your Annual Gas Safety Check

We have a legal responsibility to ensure gas appliances in our homes are checked every year by a Gas Safe registered engineer.

When Lothian Gas contacts you, please respond promptly and make every effort to provide access at the agreed appointment time. This helps us complete your gas safety check on time, avoid missed appointments and ensure your heating and hot water systems remain safe and reliable. Prompt access also helps ensure that you continue to receive your Key Tenant Scheme (KTS) discount.

If the appointment is inconvenient, please contact Lothian Gas as soon as possible to rearrange.

Never Attempt DIY Gas Work

Gas appliances, boilers and pipework should only be installed, serviced or repaired by a Gas Safe registered engineer.

DIY gas work can result in gas leaks, fires, explosions or carbon monoxide poisoning.

If you think there is a fault with a gas appliance, do not attempt to investigate or repair it yourself. Contact ELHA or Lothian Gas so the issue can be dealt with safely.

Know the Signs of Carbon Monoxide (CO)

Carbon monoxide (CO) is a poisonous gas that cannot be seen, smelled or tasted. Symptoms can include headaches, dizziness, nausea, breathlessness and confusion.

Our homes are fitted with carbon monoxide alarms where required. Please test your alarm regularly and report any concerns.

If your CO alarm activates, you smell gas, or you are concerned about a gas appliance:

  • Open doors and windows.
  • Turn off the gas supply if safe to do so.
  • Leave the property.
  • Call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.
  • Seek medical advice if anyone feels unwell.

Never ignore the signs of a gas leak or carbon monoxide poisoning.
