Changes to our Community Alarms

4 Nov 2025

Rocking Chairsm

All our amenity homes currently have an analogue phone line connected to their community alarm system.  By the end of the year, telecom providers will have switched off analogue and all telephone communication will be digital.

What this means is that while our amenity housing will continue to be allocated to tenants over the age of 50, the community alarm system will be replaced with a dispersed digital alarm provided by East Lothian Council’s Community Alarm and Telecare Service.

It also means that any tenant, not just those who live in our amenity homes, will be able to access a digital dispersed alarm should they need one.

We will be switching off our community alarms systems on 1 December 2025 and have surveyed all tenants in our amenity homes to ensure that those who still need an alarm are registered with East Lothian Council.  We have also visited every home to assess the equipment we may need to remove, and to ensure that smoke detectors that are currently interlinked with the alarm systems will work when the analogue system is switched off.
