How To Avoid Losing Your Home

Roof Replacement Programme - FAQ

The following questions and answers relate to the roof replacement programme - we hope you find these useful.

Do I have to have a new roof?

Yes, we want all homes eligible for an upgrade to have one.  We appreciate that sometimes a tenant may not want the work to be carried out, however, your roof has come to the end of its life and we cannot ensure your home will stay wind and watertight without the roof replacement.

I have solar panels on my roof, will they be removed during roof replacement?

Yes.  Your solar panels will be disconnected a few days before the roof replacement is due to be carried out and removed during the actual roof replacement. We will fit your solar panels to the new roof and reconnect them on completion.

Will I get compensation for the solar energy lost during roof replacement?

No. We will complete the roof replacement as quickly as possible to reduce the loss of solar energy.

Does the roof replacement work cost me anything?

No.  You will not be charged for any of the work for the roof replacement.

How long will the work take?

We estimate the roofing work will take approximately four weeks.

What type of roof is being fitted?

The new roof will be similar to the existing red concrete tile roof.

What do I need to do before the roof work starts?

Please remove all personal items such as garden furniture, plant pots and toys at least 2 meters away from the perimeter of your home. Please also cut back any large plants and shrubs within 2 meters of your home.

Do I need to move all my garden furniture?

Yes. Please move all the garden furniture at least 2 meters from the perimeter of your home.

Is the scaffolding likely to damage my garden?

Your garden will be returned to the original condition prior to the scaffolding being erected however, if a scaffold pole is directly on top of any planting in the garden, we may not be able to avoid it. The contractor will minimise any damage caused to planting. If you have any planting around your home, please can you trim back the plants or move them prior to the scaffolding being erected. If you have concerns, please contact your Property Officer, Andro Sneddon or Davie Dodds, on enquiries@elha.com or by phoning 01620 825032 and selecting option 3.

I have decking in my garden; will this get damaged by the scaffolding?

No damage should be caused to your decking during the works. The contractor will advise if they believe any issues may arise.

Will the work create dust in my attack?

Yes, it is likely the removal of the existing tiles will generate dust in your attack. Please note that the attic should not be used for storage. However, if you do have items stored in your loft, we strongly recommend either covering them securely or removing them altogether to prevent dust accumulation.
